Barrington Phillip Brown Sr. was born on June 16, 1946, as the seventh of nine children to the late Ralph and Eleanor Brown. He was introduced to Catholicism and the sacramental life early on in his childhood. He was baptized at Holy Comforter Saint Cyprian Catholic Church in Washington, DC where he would go on to serve as altar boy.
Barrington was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system, graduating from Eastern Senior High School. Following high school, he would serve his country by joining the United States Navy from 1965 through 1969. Upon completion of his military tour of duty and service during the Vietnam War, he would return home and begin work as a technician for Western Electric Engineering Company.
Barrington would continue his education by gaining his associate’s degree in applied science from The Washington Technical Institute and furthering his education and studies at the University of Maryland College Park. He was also very athletic, playing pickup basketball and coaching both basketball and track & field at high schools in Washington, DC.
Barrington was determined to build a solid foundation for himself career wise. He always believed that his success would be the result of his hard work and readiness. In 1980, after several years of solid work as a journeyman technician in the Washington, DC area, he received his big career break when he was offered an Information Technology consulting position with one of the largest Information Technology companies in the world at that time, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).
Barrington would immediately relocate to Petersburg, VA to begin his career in Information Technology as a computer programmer with CSC. Following 18 years of dedicated employment with CSC, he completed his final project for the company at the United States Postal Service’s research, development and engineering facility in Merrifield, VA. He would soon thereafter secure a position with Fannie Mae as an Information Technology Project Manager, supporting projects from their Washington, DC and Reston, VA facilities until retiring after 29 years from his illustrious career in 2009.
Barrington would continue to remain active in his later years with sports. In his spare time in the 90’s and 2000’s, Barrington would work part-time as a referee for both boys and girls basketball games within the DMV. He loved his Washington, DC sports franchises, especially the Redskins (Commanders), and the WNBA Washington Mystics. In addition, he was quite the handyman as he would transition from his Information Technology work and eventually start his own general contracting and home improvement business following retirement.
