Barbara Yvonne (Scott) Ashton, 71 of Clinton, Maryland.
Celebration of Life
Barbara Yvonne Ashton, affectionately known as "Nana" and "Nina" to her family and friends, departed from this earth and entered her place of eternal rest with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 30, 2017.
Barbara was born to her parents, the late Clara Bell Scott and Bernard Rhoddock Scott, Sr. on July 28, 1946, in Washington, D.C. Barbara attended Fairmont Heights High School in Capitol Heights, Maryland and Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Barbara accepted the Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, Fort Washington, Maryland.
On September 1, 1965, Barbara married the love of her life John Ashton and the two of them were blessed with three beautiful children - Danon, Cori and Tanika. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who cherished taking care of her family. Anybody who knew Barbara admired the loving bond she shared with her sons; she adored them and they truly adored her.
For a short time, Barbara worked as a substitute teacher for Prince George's County Public Schools. She found joy in working with young people and would often say "one paper, one pen, one child, one teacher makes the world a better place." Some years later, Barbara was hired by C&P Telephone Company, which is now called Verizon Communications, where she served as a Database Maintenance Administrator for more than 35 years.
Barbara loved to travel. She and John spent many summers traveling to exotic places like Aruba, Jamaica, and Hawaii. She also enjoyed local road trips to Ocean City, Maryland where she spent time relaxing with family and friends at her beach house. Every summer she would take a 'Girls Trip' to Ocean City with Connie, Sis, Clara, Aunt Shirley, and Barbara Moore.
In addition to traveling and spending time with family and friends, Barbara had an eye for fashion and loved to shop, cook and decorate; Christmas was her favorite holiday. If you stopped by her house to visit you could expect a warm welcome and a hot, home-cooked meal made with love.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of treasured memories that will last forever. She loved unconditionally, always giving, helping, and caring for those around her. Thank you God for giving us this beautiful soul named Barbara for 71 years. She will forever live in our hearts.
Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, John Ashton; three children, Danon Ashton (Stacy), Cori Ashton (Akyva), and Tanika Ashton (deceased); seven sibling, Bernard "Junior" Scott Jr. (Connie), Shirley Milton (John), Beverly Price, Eugene Smith (Badise), Lester Marbury (Aretha), Idaline Price, and Patricia Carter; three aunts, Marguerite Mims, Doris Chesley, Anna Moore; one uncle, Walter Moore (Barbara); two sister-in-laws, Patricia Brodie (Sam), LaGreta Abney; two brother-in-laws, Arthur Ashton, deceased (Dorothea), Tyrone Ashton, deceased (Diane); four grandchildren, Kelsey (18), Kennedy (15), Aja' (14), and Paige (10); three nieces, Lisa Scott, Tisha Harrison (Dale), and Tia Page (Gregory);and a host of great nieces, nephews, and loving relatives, friends, and neighbors.
