Obituary

On December 23, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, surrounded by family, Barbara E. Jackson quietly slipped away to her eternal rest.
Beloved wife of Edward L. Jackson for 52 years, Barbara was born March 1, 1938 in Pamplin, Virginia to the late Arsenia and Pearline Styles. She was the 4th oldest of eight siblings. Two preceded her in death, E. Leon Styles and Talbert Styles.
Barbara confessed her belief in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the Prince Edward County Schools. After graduation, she moved to New York City where she was employed at AT&T as a telephone operator.
Barbara and Edward have four children and Barbara spent her life dedicated to loving her family and making a home for her husband and children during Edward's 26 year military career. An excellent cook, homemaker, gardener, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be remembered as much for her beautiful gardens and family meals, as she will for her loyalty to family and friends and sense of humor. Barbara was also an avid reader and enjoyed spending time walking at the mall with her friends.
She was struck by a massive stroke in September of this year and again in December. She fought a good battle, but the war was just too great. She will be remembered fondly by many and her legacy carries on in her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two uncles, Calvin (Minnie) Styles of Baltimore, MD and Drs. Twitty (Connie) Styles of Clifton Park, NY. Also left to mourn are one sister, Shirley Carr of Lynchburg, VA and three brothers and one sister-in-law, Carl Styles of Pamplin, VA, Cedric (Juanita) Styles of Washington, DC and Fredric Styles of El Paso, TX; beloved children and spouses, Valencia (William) Savoy of Manassas, VA, Deborah Jackson Mallett of Waldorf, MD, Edward V. (Adrienne) Jackson of Sparks, MD and Lisa (Osbourne) McKay of Latham, NY. She will also be remembered by seven grandchildren; Vaterio (Danielle) Hunter, LaShay (Omar) Salgado, Ashlee Jackson, Bria Jackson, Jasmyn (Jade) Merrick, Steven Mallett and Amber McKay, eight great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 1:00pm until service time 2:00pm at the New Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church,12310 Washington Square, Route 925, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. The interment will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 11:00am, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, PA, Indian Head, MD 20640.
