Obituary

JONES, ARTHUR LEE, SR (AGE 66) OF WHITE PLAINS, MD

Arthur Lee Jones, Sr., born March 28, 1947 in Ruther Glen, Virginia was suddenly called from labor to reward at 9:58pm, Monday, July 29, 2013 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He was born to the late Deacon Samuel Jones and the late Deaconess Amanda F. Jones.

Arthur Jones received his formal educations from Caroline County Public Schools where he played baseball and football. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age and was a God fearing man. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper from 1968 to 1970. Arthur was employed as a federal employee for Smithsonian Museums for 26 years (including military service).

Upon retirement, Arthur, affectionately known as "Lee Lee", "Pops", "Jones", and "AL", and known to all wherever he lived as "the Mayor" was always about family. He adored his family and spent most of his time tending to his home and of course, playing cards. He was an avid Redskin fan (his favorite player's number was 59) and enjoyed watching sports with friends and family.

Arthur was united in Holy Matrimony to his soul mate, Bessie Rosemary Garlic. To this union three children were born.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories, three devoted children: Arthur Lee Jones, Jr., Sherry Lynn Jones Robinson, and Shaun Antonio Jones Sr.; five grandchildren: Shaunea Robinson, Shaun Jones, Jr., Arthur Lee Jones III, MeShaun Jones and Aysia Jones; one son-in-law, Darrell Lee Robinson; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Jones; four brothers; Samuel Jones Jr., (Wanda) Norman Jones (Margaret), James Jones, Gerald Jones (Martina); two sisters, Gwendolyn Conyers (Will), Carolyn Minor (Roland); two God daughters Sakina and Shannon; a Special Son Brian McCray; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

His viewing will be held 11am until time of service 12pm on Monday, August 5th at Calvary Gospel Church, 11150 Berry Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.

Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, MD.
