Arthur Louis Bowman, 85, of Indian Head, Maryland
Arthur Louis Bowman 85, affectionately known as "Puddin Pie" passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023. He was born in Pisgah, Maryland on December 3, 1938, and was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Nathaniel and Nellie Ann Ford Bowman; wife, Dorothy Mae Bowman; daughter, Cheryl Crochran; sister, Helen Bowman Smith; brothers, Leroy Bowman, Joseph Bowman, and William Bowman; and sisters-in-law, Rosetta Jean Dorsey Bowman, Catherine Ann Baker Sampson; brothers-in-law, David Baker, Ronald Baker, Reuben Baker, Grant Baker Jr.
Arthur attended Charles County Public Schools in Indian Head, Maryland. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted into the United States Navy. After the Navy, he became a dedicated employee with Cady Construction Company, until his retirement. He was an avid carpenter and industrial equipment driver with over sixty years of experience.
Arthur married the late Dorothy Mae Baker. From their union, four children were born; Kevin, Timothy, Cheryl and Melvin.
Arthur always had a love for farming, fishing, westerns, and carpentry. He could always be found on the farm riding his tractor; planting vegetables in his garden; raising his farm animals, and in the past, planting and harvesting tobacco; or taking his boat out to catch some fish. He was also passionate about watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. And he thoroughly, enjoyed his daily telephone calls with his two sisters, Elizabeth Butler and Annie Jean Stuckey. Before his health started declining, he enjoyed going to the race track at Maryland International Raceway known as Budd's Creek.
Arthur was a very quiet and gentle person. He loved being around family and friends reminiscing about the good old days.
Arthur will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory; his sons, Kevin, Timothy and Melvin (Gertrude) Bowman; grandsons, Elton Crochran and Malik Stephens; granddaughter, Talia Bowman; great grandchildren, Elijah and Ellayna Crochran; son-in-law; Bryan Crochran; sisters, Elizabeth Butler and Annie Jean Stuckey; sisters-in-law; Annette Bowman, Mary Baker Blackmon, Jacqueline Baker. Aretha Bowman; brother-in-law, Maurice T. Baker, Sr. (Denise). He is also survived by special family members, Rufus Bowman, Howard Ford, Spaulding Ford, and Francis Maddox, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
His Viewing will be held from 10:00 am until time of Service, 11:00 am, Thursday, January 4, 2024 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
Interment, 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 4, 2024,at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
