Obituary

On April 6, 2021 Artherol Serrell Hudnell the oldest son of Horace David Hudnell Jr. and Elouise Letitia Hudnell transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Artherol better known as "Pete" was born in Washington D.C. where he attended public schools before finally settling in Prince George's County Maryland with his dad, mom, and siblings and graduating from Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, MD.

Pete served a short time in the military and worked jobs such as a Mail Center Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for Facility and Office Services at American Council On Education in Washington DC.  He also worked with various companies as a Security Guard, retiring from Securitas Security in 2018 due to failing health. From the relationship of over thirty years with his companion Anita Murphy, two daughters were born. He was the proud father of Alexis DeShawn Murphy and Shannon Antoinette Murphy. He would later become the proud grandfather of Gabrielle Adams and Christopher Bryant Jr.

Pete's passion for music started when he was a teenager listening to Jimi Hendrix. He set out to be the next Jimi Hendrix by teaching himself how to play the electric guitar.  He enjoyed listening to other guitar artists such as Steve Via, Slash and loved music by Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, Frankie Beverly and Maze, and Mint Condition. Years ago Pete and a few friends started their own band and played in local clubs in the Maryland/DC area.  In his downtime, he enjoyed watching football, basketball, movies, collecting movies on DVD, and spending time with family and friends.  Anyone who knew Pete knew he was a home-body but did like to go out occasionally for a steak or rib dinner, or some crabs.  The family often joked and poked fun at him for being cheap but as he would say in his defense "shoot I can buy two or three of these for that price" and he did just that as we often left the store with the cheaper items or nothing at all.

Pete is survived by his two daughters Shannon and Alexis Murphy of Suitland, MD; his mother Elouise Hudnell (Horace Jr. Deceased) of Temple Hills, MD; his companion and mother of his children Anita Murphy of Suitland MD;  two grandchildren Gabrielle Adams and Christopher Bryant Jr. of Suitland, MD; brothers Shanteen (Ulrike) Hudnell of Nettetal, Germany, Lionel (Lisa) Hudnell of Clinton, MD; sister Monica Hudnell of Clinton, MD; nieces Michelle and Jocelyn Hudnell; nephews Bryton and Donovan Hudnell; his uncles Thaddeus El Foster; Harold Hudnell; Melvin Cobb and Andrew Harrison; aunts Nina and Rhonda Hudnell; Paula Graves and Wanda Holloman; Carolyn Jackson and host of cousins.

A Family Gathering will be held 10:00 am, until time of Memorial Service, 11:00 am, Saturday, April, 24, 2021 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
