Obituary

EDWARDS, ARDELIA (AGE 94) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MD

On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Fort Washington Health & Rehabilitation Center, Ardelia Edwards departed this life for one eternal.

"Dee," as she was affectionately called, was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1920 to the late Joseph and the late Eula Lassiter.

Dee met the love of her life, the late Richard Edwards, while waiting at a bus stop. They would share the same bus ride as he would be on his way to work and she to her destination. Sparks of love turned into a flame and remained for sixty-three years of marriage. Together they shared a loving family with their daughter, Brenda.

Dee worked for the New York school system as a School Administrator but her family always was first priority. It was her family that she was most proud of but it was her grandchildren that gave her the most enjoyment in life.

In describing Dee, she would be called outspoken, funny, passionate, sociable and stubborn. It was those characteristics that gave her the strength and boldness that her family most admired.

She loved to fish. She and her late husband, Richard, fished often when he was living and she continued to do so even after his passing. Fishing wasn't her only interest. She also loved to gamble and cook. Dee was very supportive of our President, Barrack Obama and would joke that Tom Jones was her next husband! Her grandchildren will remember her sayings, "Shoot for the moon cause if you miss you will be among the stars," and "Don't let anyone tell you, you can't."

In addition to her parents and husband, she joins in glory, her siblings; Rosa Lassiter, Elsie Vann, Manasas, Joseph, and Ralph Lassiter.

Left to share in these and other precious memories are daughter, Brenda Clayburn, grand children, Nicole Childress, Michelle Evans, Jolie Clayburn, great grandchild, Dalon Clayburn, grandsons-in-law, Michael Childress, and Chris Evans, sister, Ella Mae Thomas, nieces and nephews; Greer, Ella, Joseph Ronald and Kevin Lassiter, Sheila Cypress, Jeff and Carlton Lassiter, Janice Mangano, Cheryl, Tanya and Dewayne Thomas, Phelps Vann, Joey Gonzaliz, Delysia Cole and George Collins and a host of great nieces, great nephews, close friends and other relatives, Weda Davis, Sheila Poindexter, George Jr. and Bonnie Lassiter

Her services will be held on from 9am until time of service 10am on Monday, February 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Entombment, National Memorial Park, King David Memorial Gardens, Fall Church, VA.
