Obituary

The value of one's life is measured by the soul.

Tao Te Ching

Today we are here to celebrate the homegoing of the soul of Antonio Roberto DaCosta, who we call Tony.

Tony was the second son born to the late Dorothy Margaret (Enty) DaCosta and the late Reginald Rodriguez DaCosta. Tony was a curious child. He loved learning and being challenged. He loved being with family. From his Mother, he learned about Grace and Love. From his Father, he learned about Strength. From his Grandmother, he learned about Nature and Chickens. From his Uncles and Aunts, he learned about Farming and Food and the value of Collectibles. From his Grandfather, he learned what would become his lifetime passion, Mechanics.

From the first time he was shown how to repair an engine, he was hooked. His grasp of how things worked and could be repaired had him repairing every farm tractor and mower not only for the family, but for his grandparents' neighboring farms as well. And it did not stop there. At home he would take things apart to see how they worked and put them back together and from this he developed an ear for hearing what was wrong. He learned to take apart car engines and rebuild them and even his own car which he would 'blow out the transmission' carry it up to his room, rebuild it at night and put it back in the car to go to school. Once, thinking he was carrying the transmission up the stairs in secret, his parents woke up and asked if he was carrying a part of his car up the stairs again.

Going forward, his love for cars grew. He built several race cars. He built his prize car – a 1968 Dodge Charger. At 17, he began working for auto shops (arriving at work with a small toolbox that his coworkers called a lunchbox). They soon found out that there was no part of a car that he could not fix.

His life was not complete until he met Kimi. He taught her about cars, and from her he learned that there was more to life than just cars. He enjoyed spending time with the family, whether going on adventures, gathering to watch movies or just playing games.

Tony is celebrated by his 'One Love' ----wife, Kimi DaCosta; brother, Alberto DaCosta; sister, Angela Nelson (James); brother, Reginald Rodriguez DaCosta;  mother-in-law, Mildred Chapman Deskins; sisters-in-law, Charlene Deskins and Arletta Wilson (William); Goddaughters, Whitney Wilson, Leslie Johnson and Leyah Johnson; nieces, Candice Mobley and Chloe Mobley; nephews, Canton Wilson, Michael DaCosta and Steven DaCosta; cousins, Randy Moats and Rose Marie Brown and a host of family and friends not forgotten, but too many to mention.

We would like to thank everyone who has shown their love for Tony and the family at this time.

Special thanks to the following persons for their help through the last few months of Tony's illness: Jason Adams, Darrel Anderson, Matthew Bynum, Thomas Curry, Glenwood King, Reginald Robinson, Tony Robinson and Homer Weakley.

To all the Doctors, Nurses, GNAs and Assistants that have worked with Tony over the years, we thank you. We hope that God will continue to bless and keep you in his care as you continue on your life's journey.
