Anthony Thompson, affectionately known as "Mook", was born on September 6, 1956 in Washington, DC to Kenneth Sr., and Shirley Thompson. He was the fifth child born of ten children. In the early 1960's, his parents became members of the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ (CLJC), where he was faithful servant for many years.
Anthony was a precocious child. At a young ae, he took interest in music and learned to play the flute. Anthony joined the Music ministry under Bishop McDowell Shelton and was given his spiritual name "Holy Minstrel Nagan". He was part of the musical group "The Apostolic Quintet" who's name was given by Anthony's father. He and his band members- Pianist, Edward Belton, Bassist, Jerome miller, Percussionist, Gerald Gardner, and Saxophonist, Melvin Eley, Jr., traveled around the county sharing their gifts with their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Anthony graduated from McKinley Technical High School in 1975 and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Howard University where he graduated in 1981. He married his lifelong church friend Ellerstine (Tina) Banks on September 11, 1982 and had two daughters, Lateefah and Antoinette.
Anthony worked for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) under the Department of Navy for 36 years, where his colleagues knew him as Tony. Throughout his work career, he traveled the world, putting his love of engineering nd technology to use. He continued his education and received his Master's Degree in Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 2003.
In 1993, he became the District Supervisor and Local Minister in charge of the Maryland, DC and Delaware region of The CLJC Satellite Church locations.
Anthony retired from NAVSEA in 2017 and devoted his free time continuing to serve the Church. He was also studying to receive a CDL so he could fulfill his dream of driving motor coaches, combing his love for people and the open road.
Sadly, in 2019, he was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder Scleroderma and his health declined from complications of the disease. On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, Antony transitioned into eternity.
He is survived by his mother Shirley, siblings Sondra (Larry), Inez (Clayton), Tyrone, Maurice, Christine (George), Diana (David), Harvey (Dana), Iris, his wife, Ellerstine, daughters Lateefah and Antoinette, his "granddog", Saddie Mae, father-in-law Joshua Banks, Sr., (Cynthia) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.
Anthony had a convivial spirit and a very distinctive laugh which will be missed by anyone who's experienced it.
