Obituary

Swann, Anthony Gilbert "Gil" (Age 60) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Anthony Gilbert "Gil" Swann born February 25, 1961 to J. Evelyn Swann and the late Gabriel H. Swann, Sr. and of Bryans Road, MD.  On Thursday, March 4, 2021, Gil, as he was affectionately known, quietly earned his wings.

Gil was baptized, received Holy Communion and was Confirmed at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He attended St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School and graduated from Ryken High School.  Gil attended the University of Maryland and Catholic University.  But maybe we should say, students of both universities attended the school of Gil, because he was often called upon to assist his professors to teach class.

Gil had many professional careers, and worked throughout Canada and all over the States. Being the political and history buff that he was Gil found his true calling as an executive tour guide.  Gil was a gifted story teller, full of facts, and treated all of his clients like professionals and good friends.

Gil had many passions; sports, pinball, trivia and hanging with his nephews and nieces.  Gil was a devoted fan to all Washington Sports Teams, especially the Washington Nationals and Capitals. It was rare to see him wearing anything that wasn't sports related. Gil started a fun family tradition of attending the Nationals Home Opening Games, dragging his mom, brother and sister along.

Gil loved pinball as a child. When pinball made a comeback, so did Gil. He spent every Tuesday night playing pinball at Crabtowne, in Glen Bernie, MD.  Pinball was something he took seriously but enjoyed immensely. Gil's pinball competitors were also some of his closest and dearest friends.

Gil was a friend and (advisor) to people from all walks of life, he never met a stranger. His nieces and nephews would often go to him for advice, hear his new movie reviews, play trivia games and hear some of his great stories.

To cherish his memory and hearty laugh Gil leaves his beloved mother Evelyn Swann; brother Gabriel Jr., sister Gail Swann Stewart; two nephews Gabriel III and Tyler; four nieces Alicia, Andrea, Kristen; and Brittni; sister-in-law Shelly and brother-in-law Jevon; nine great nieces and nephews; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Gil was preceded in death by his father Gabriel, Sr. and his sister Kimberly Ann.

In his honor, we request that you wear your favorite Washington team sports gear to the services.
