Anthony Calleous Bannister was born on October 19, 1952 in Grayton, MD to the late Edward and Ardell Bannister. Anthony departed this life on Saturday April 4, 2026 at Inova hospital in Falls Church, VA. The late Reverend William Leach baptized him at Riverside.
Anthony attended Charles County public schools and, at a young age, bravely served his country with honor by enlisting in the United States Army. Following his active military service in the United States and abroad, he continued serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. Before joining the Army, Anthony worked at Ely’s Store where he drove a delivery truck. After returning home, he built a strong work ethic through a variety of roles including working as an Explosive Worker at the Naval Ordinance Station, with Virginia Roofing, as a truck driver for Winborn Trucking, and later as a truck driver/operator for the Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant. At the time of his passing Anthony was enjoying retirement. He especially enjoyed his grandkids, fishing, going to the racetrack, and spending time with family. There would be times when his siblings would look outside and see Anthony pulling up. This always led to good times and conversation. We didn’t recognize it as quality time then… but they are memories that will be treasured forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ardell; mother- and father-in-law Stanley (Jockie) and Dorothy (Mickie) Berry; brothers Jern, Oliver, and Sterling; brothers-in-law James Jackson and Bobby, Jackie, and Tony Berry; and sisters-in-law Tracy and Patty Berry. Anthony leaves to cherish his memories a devoted friend Roberta Grinder; former spouse and good friend Anna Bannister; 2 sons Jerry Bannister and Devante Yates; 2 daughters Laprice Swann (Maurice Son-in-law) and Shantea Bannister (Aaron Son-in-law); 3 granddaughters ShaKyrice, Kathaleya and Zaire; 2 grandsons Aaden and Titus; 6 brothers Cecil (Connie), Stanley (Linda), Garnell (Teri), Sherwood (Roxie), Bobby (Rika), Leonard (Deneen); 5 Sisters Gloria (Vincent), Sherriann (Roy), Ardell, Denise (Carl), and Verna (Jeff); 6 Sisters-in-law Geraldine and Rita Bannister and Rose, Brenda, Shirley, and Sheila Berry; brother-in-law Lonnie Berry; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to include a special military friend Joe.
