Annie Ruth was born to James and Ruth Johnson on February 4, 1936 in Nansemond County, Virginia. She was the sixth child of sixteen.

Annie Ruth married Ernest Scott Sr. on October 15, 1966 and they remained committed to each other for forty years until his death on October 8, 2006. They have two caring daughters; Valerie Bostick and Annette Scott of La Plata, Maryland and two sons; Ernest Jr. and Malcolm Scott of Portsmouth, Virginia. While Ernest was proudly serving in the United States Army for over 20 years, Annie Ruth stayed by his side as a devoted military spouse. After he retired from the Army in 1981, she went on to start her career as a dedicated Food Service worker for Portsmouth Public Schools.

Annie Ruth was a beautiful, strong woman.  She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that loved her family dearly.  She was extremely devoted and always willing and able to help her family. She loved travelling with her two daughters and looked forward to our family birthday dinners.  Annie Ruth was blessed with time to enjoy her six grandchildren; Shawn and Brandon Bostick, Erykah Hopkins, Shawne and Jordan Scott, and Aiden Smith. She was blessed with three great grandchildren; Ava Bostick, Faith Holtzclaw and Mizylah Isaac who she loved to just hold and kiss.

On Thursday, April 24, 2025 the Lord called Annie Ruth home.  Although she was called home sooner than we had hoped, she and Ernest are back together again, making sure we are okay.  She leaves her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many family and friends with cherished memories.

Annie Ruth will be greatly missed by all of us.
