Profile of Life – Order My Steps

Today we celebrate and praise God for the victorious life of God's
faithful servant, Annie Kennedy Barbour, whose steps ended on earth. Annie's steps in life began when she was born to the late Annie C. Kennedy and the late Jeremiah Kennedy, December 28, 1915 in Chestertown, Maryland. She was the tenth and last surviving child of this loving and caring family of ten.

Annie completed elementary and high school in the public school system of Queen Anne's and Kent County. This led her to a life time of academic achievement, beginning her career as a
teacher. She stepped out receiving an advanced First Grade Certificate in teaching from Bowie State Normal School Teachers College and continuing on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree from Hampton University and a Master's Degree from George Washington University, District of Columbia.

Annie taught elementary school in Kent, Talbot and Charles Counties ending as a Reading Teacher in Prince George's County.
Annie's' steps reached out for more than forty years as she touched the lives of hundreds of children and adults. She also taught Reading and Literature in the night sessions of Bowie State University.

Annie's steps included a strong commitment for God's Word. From birth through the years, she was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Burrisville Charge, Centreville, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. She was transferred to Metropolitan United Methodist in Pomonkey, Indian Head, Maryland, where she continued her active duties as Church School Teacher and Superintendent, United Methodist Women and President, Director of Vacation Bible School, Summer School Reading Program for children, Director of Plays, Director of Nursery; she instigated programs on everybody's birthday and pancake celebrations under the pastors who were sent there; namely Reverend Carter (2 years), Reverend Hinson, Reverend Sherman, Reverend Cardoso, Reverend Carmen, Reverend Watson and Reverend DeFord who gave her a certificate for faithful and outstanding service. Then Reverend Hackey was sent to serve, she continued to go to the Sunday morning services.

Annie's steps were greatly brightened when she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Henry Barbour in 1948. Her steps were brightened even more by the birth of two sons, Michael Barbour and the late Jeffrey Barbour. By then she was enjoying her new home in Pisgah, Maryland with her family.

Annie was a member of the Emeritus Club of Hampton University and also a member of the Prince George's County and Charles County Teachers Association. Annie's name is included in the books of Who's Who and Foremost Women of the Twentieth Century.

Annie had a love for traveling and her steps took her to the 50 states in the U.S.A., numerous islands abroad and she touched the six continents.

Annie's steps continued to brighten when she was honored by Bowie State University an active participating alumni who endeavored to hold up the standard for developing youth.
