Annie R. Doar, Age 69 of Accokeek, Maryland.

Annie Doar departed this life on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC. She was born on December 17, 1939 in Hardeeville, SC to William Bush Sr. and Hattie Salter Bush who preceded her in death.

She was united in Holy matrimony to James E. Doar. She joined Saint Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church, Hardeeville, South Carolina at an early age. She relocated to Washington, DC and became a member of Pilgrim African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served faithful in the catering ministry. Her academic pursuit began in Jasper County, SC. She was a graduate of Jasper High School, Ridgeland, SC.

Annie enjoyed culinary arts and provided many meals for her family and the community. Annie took great pride in her family and her love for her children and grandchildren. Her jovial spirit was evident and constantly demonstrated in her deeds. She was always humble and unassuming.. Annie will be remembered best for her kind and caring demeanor. She retired from Howard University as a Food Service Manager in 2005 with numerous awards and accolades.

As Annie waits crowning she is greeted by her mother, Hattie Bush Salters, father William Bush Sr., sisters: Teresa M. Black, Sarah B. McCloud, Cenella E. Brinson, brothers: Charles Bush, James Bush, and Ernest Bush who preceded her in death.

Her transition is survived by her husband James E. Doar, loving daughters Vanessa (Walter) Mack of Hardeeville, SC, Jo Ann (Troy) Ricks of Accokeek, MD, and Angela Doar of Waldorf MD, four sisters: her twin, Mrs. Addie (Willie) Jones of Sanford, FL, Mrs. Jenell Washington of Hardeeville, SC, Mrs. Johnnie M.B. Dopson, Ridgeland, SC, Mrs. Margaret Primus of Hardeeville, SC, three brothers: Mr. William Bush Jr. (Dionne), and Mr. Willie Shark of Ritter, SC, Mr. John Wesley (Wilhemina) Bush of Hardeeville, SC six grandchildren: James T. Doar, Kevin Doar, Walter J. Mack, Antonio Doar, Jami Mack, and Davon Abney and eight great-grand children, two sister-in-laws: Shirley Hector, Ridgeland, SC, and Madelyn Mack, New York, NY, a special nephew Dennis Bush of Sanford, FL, and a special god-daughter, The Honorable Karen E. Hampton of College Park, MD. Also left to cherish precious memories and to commemorate her legacy are many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her life has been well lived and peaceful rest well earned.

The family of the late Annie Doar wishes to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to their friends and colleagues for their many expressions of sympathy.

Her Viewing and Home Going Service was held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Pilgrim African Methodist Episcopal Church, 612 -17th Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002. Her Interment was in Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Pomonkey, Maryland.
