Mrs. Anna Beatrice (Powell) White, 95 of Pomfret (La Plata), Maryland.
Anna Beatrice (Powell) White, 95, passed away peacefully in her home on September 8, 2022. Anna was born in Capeville, Virginia on April 4, 1927 to the late Albert and Viola Powell. She was the seventh of nine siblings born to the couple. After graduating from the public schools of Northampton County, Virginia, she entered Hampton Institute and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Education in 1949. She met her husband, the late Clarence L. White, Sr., while attending Hampton and were married for over 60 years. Out of their union they had four sons.
Shortly after graduating college, Anna's career started as Secretary to the Dean at Maryland State College in Princess Anne, Maryland now known as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She moved to Charles County after the late Joseph C. Parks, Supervisor of Colored Schools, recruited her husband to teach Industrial Arts at Pomonkey High School. Anna had various successful careers: Secretary to the elementary and high school supervisors of African American Students in Charles County; Secretary at the US Naval Air Station in Washington, D.C.; Secretary at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C.; Secretary at the US Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, MD; Teacher at Pomonkey Junior High School for one year and retired as Head of the Secretarial Science Department of the Charles County Community College for 15 years. While working at the Community College, Anna received her Master's degree from Bowie State College in Guidance and Counseling.
Anna was very active in community and church organizations. She was a member of the American Cancer Society, Business and Professional Women's Foundation and a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Anna became a faithful member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church in 1957. In church, she was a member and President of the United Methodist Women, Coordinator of Adult Ministries, taught Adult Church School, served as Chairperson of the Administrative Council, and Co-Chairperson of the Building Committee for the construction of the new fellowship hall (multi-purpose room).
Anna and her husband enjoyed playing card games and traveling for summer vacations with their next door neighbors, the late James and Susy Washington. A highlight each year for Anna, was to travel with her husband to Cape May, New Jersey, on the 4 th of July, to vacation and fellowship with family. She enjoyed listing to gospel music, watching Steve Harvey's Family Feud Game Show, Judge Judy Court Show and soap operas.
Anna leaves to cherish her memories, 4 sons, Charles, Sr. (Tanya), Clarence, Jr., (JoAnn), Norman (Anita) & Vlan (Vivian); 5 grandchildren, Tamara, Charles, Jr. (Cassandra), Taliaferro (Danielle), Courtney (Jamis) & Candace; and 4 great grandchildren, Michelle, Jason, Aryana and Jaxson; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
