IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Andrew Ernest
Washington, Sr.
July 15, 1938 – June 6, 2022
Andrew Ernest Washington, Sr. was born July 15, 1938 to Albert Washington and Macie Tinsley in Ashland, Virginia.
Andrew peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Adventist Healthcare-White Oak Medical Center.
Andrew was educated in the Hanover County Virginia Public Schools, where he took a liking to the sport of baseball and perfected his skillsets until an unfortunate car accident prevented him from pursuing his dream.
In the late 1950s, he relocated to Washington, D.C, where he became interested in the funeral home industry. Upon completion of his internship, he went on to become a licensed mortician, and sometimes directed funerals. During his apprenticeship, Andrew met and fell in love with the late Saulena Marie (McGill) Washington, who resided a few doors down from Hall Brothers Funeral Home in NW, Washington, D.C. During his career as a mortician, he worked at Jarvis Funeral Home and other funeral homes in Washington, D.C. In addition, he worked as a taxicab driver, and a Congressional Receiving Clerk with the Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., until his retirement on December 31, 1993.
Andrew can be best remembered as a lover of people and life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and listening to songs by his favorite artists, such as Fats Domino, Tina Turner, Chuck Berry, and Diana Ross to name a few. Andrew also enjoyed playing catch-up with some of his former colleagues and friends and reminiscing about his life, experiences, and careers.
Andrew leaves behind his ten children, Andrew, Jr. (Andrea), Gaylya (Venus), Detra (Cedric), Greta (Perry), Anthony (Sylvia), Tamatha, Stephanie, Andre' (Lorie), Robin, and Andria, 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
