Obituary

Amelia Tilghman was born on June 26, 1918, in Chester, Maryland to the late Earnest Brown and the late Ada Brown. She was affectionately known by her siblings as "Bootsie." She was joined in holy matrimony on March 5, 1955 to Booker Tilghman who preceeded her in death. From this union, their daughter Delinda was born. Peacefully, on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, Amelia was called to her eternal home at Fort Washington Rehabilitation Center in Fort Washington, Maryland.

Amelia attended public schools in Queen Anne County, Maryland and high school in Dorchester County, Maryland. Her early Christian teachings of the Methodist faith began on the Eastern Shore. After marriage she became a long time, active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she served as communion steward and choir member. After the closing of St. Paul, she became an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Bellevue, Maryland until she relocated to Fort Washington, Maryland. She did domestic work until she retired.

Her main interest included cooking, preserving fruits and vegetables, and watching the judge shows on television. She especially loved to entertain family members and friends. She always kept candy and goodies in her home for the neighborhood children.

If we could describe Amelia in words, they would be loving, caring, nurturing, spiritual and blessed. The traits we admired the most was her ability to instill in her family the basic Christian morals and values of life.

Her proudest moments were the academic achievement of her daughter, her daughter's marriage, and the birth of her granddaughter, Shayna, who preceded her in death. Shayna affectionately referred to her as "GG."

She attended and participated in all family and nursing home activities. Her immediate family and God, was the center of her joy. She was very passionate about her study and memory of God's Word.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She would want future generations to remember Psalm 121 which was her favorite scripture, and her favorite song was "It Is Well With My Soul."

She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life her loving and devoted daughter, Delinda Tilghman Cooke; devoted son-in-law Vincent Cooke; one brother, Delmar Brown; three sisters-in-law Catherine Brown, Henrietta Brown, and Florence Brown; and a host of friends and relatives.

Her viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, 10am until Service 11am at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. The interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, PA, Indian Head, MD.
