Brooks, Alphonso (Age 69) of Clinton, Maryland.
Alphonso Brooks was born on June 11, 1942 in Widen, West Virginia. After a long fought illness, he departed this life on August 25, 2011 at the Southern Maryland Hospital, in Clinton, Maryland.
He was the son of the late Mary Brooks Simpson and step son of the late Benjamin Simpson.
He attended Public School in Clarksburg, West Virginia. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army, where he served his Country during the Vietnam War. Alphonso was employed by the Dominion Power Company in Alexandria, Virginia. After 29 years of working as a Lead Lineman, he retired.
After retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard. He was a strong, private, independent and very outspoken person. He had a great love for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and enjoyed watching old movies, especially action movies, and collecting model airplanes.
In addition to his mother and step-father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Simpson, Jr.
Left to cherish many memories are his two sons, Alfonzo Carlos (Denise) of Oceanside, CA, and Fernando Miguel (Kathy) of Huntingtown, MD; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; a devoted friend, Tongelia Bailey, one sister Sodoya Brooks of Phillippi, West VA, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 11 am until time of Service, 12 noon Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
