Remembering Alma Lee King

"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:26

Alma Lee King 85 peacefully departed this life and transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Alma was born February 22, 1938 in Gastonia, North Carolina.  She lived in Washington, DC and later moved to Purcellville, Virginia where she was raised by her loving foster parents Edna "Little Mama" Virginia Lee and Allen Langston Lee.  Later, she moved to Pomonkey, Maryland where she met the love of her life.  On May 12, 1956 she was united in holy matrimony to Vincent Junius King at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Indian Head, Maryland and from their union, God blessed them with four children Anthony, Barry, Sharon, and Sherril.  During Vincent's service in the U.S. Army the family traveled to many places including Anchorage, Alaska where she learned a lot from other Army wives about cooking and how to care for children then in Aschaffenburg and Kitzingen Germany where she met many lifelong friends that became family.

Affectionately known as "Omar" to her loved ones, a name she wore proudly. Alma showed love to everyone by preparing her special goodie bags with treats for the kids and making homemade birthday cakes in which she always took time to remember birthdays in her special way.  She put lots of love into preparing meals for her family and friends. She was known for her good cooking and loved hosting family gatherings.  Alma enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her children as well as helping with her "grands" and "great grands" as she liked to call them.        Alma loved spending time with her family, it meant everything to her.  She enjoyed shopping at Target, watching Young and the Restless, Bold & the Beautiful, Price is Right and Let's make a deal.  She enjoyed watching movies, she loved her westerns, Tyler Perry movies/plays and she especially enjoyed watching her football team the Washington Redskins while hollering as loud as she could.

Alma and Vincent lived in Kettering, Maryland for many years.  On February 10, 1991 she joined First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover, Maryland where she enjoyed attending services with her dear sister Penny Gray.  Later in life Alma and Vincent moved to Marbury, Maryland on "The Hill" or "The Country" as she would call it; back to where Vincent and so many their family members were raised.  Alma enjoyed starting her mornings off with a cup of black coffee and pastries. Her favorite foods were fried chicken and watermelon popsicles.

Alma was loved by anyone who came to know her. ❤

Preceding her in death, her mother-in-law Mary Catherine King "Goldie"; father-in-law Earl Sylvester King; her daughter Sherril Denise Mile, her son Barry Allen King, Sr. and her grandson Devin Ryan King.
