Obituary

BEVERLY, ALICE MILDRED (AGE 95) OF CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD

Alice Mildred Beverly was born May 2, 1920 to Perry and Tena Muse in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She entered into eternal rest on December 3, 2015.

Mildred moved to Washington, D.C. when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Armstrong High School, where she met and married James Henry Beverly. In 1941 the Beverly family moved to Camden, New Jersey where their only son, Reynaud was born.

Her talent for cooking was a prized skill and she soon became the cook at Camden Catholic High School. In the summer she was also cooking at a camp for blind children in New York State. She also was the head cook at the Solesbery Private School in Bucks County, PA.

Church work and activities had been important to her from an early age and in Camden she was very active in the Little Rock Baptist Church, where her husband was a Deacon. In 1965 Mildred joined the Salvation Army, working in the office at first and then when the Nutrition program started, she once again took her place as the "chief cook." In 1979 Mildred became a Site II Manager on Benson Street in Camden, and then years later as Sargent Major on Haddon Avenue. After spending the majority of her life in New Jersey, Mildred moved to Maryland to be closer to her family.

Mildred was a sweet and loving lady who truly loved her family. She always talked especially about the children – both her immediate and Salvation Army family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Beverly and her son Reynaud Beverly, Sr.

Her memory is cherished by her sister, Rose Weedon; 7 grandchildren, Donna Young, Anthony, Craige, Glen, Kevin, Reynaud Jr., and Ricardo; 4 great grandchildren, Albert Jr. (Dawn), Iaysha, Monica, Rashida; 11 great-great grandchildren, Aaron, Alisha, Joseph, Le-keyven, Skye, Star, Tahj, Ti-ahja, Ti-jon, Trinity, and Zakera; 1 niece, Anna Rowe; 2 nephews, Donald Muse, Sr. and Oswald Weedon; 3 great nieces, Karen, Deborah and Tena; 1 great nephew, Donald Jr. (Charlita); 3 great-great nieces, Nicole, Jeanae and Donya; 2 great-great nephews, Donald III and Donnell, and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be no interment.
