Obituary
As we celebrate the life of Agnes Elizabeth Yates, the Matriarch of the family, we do so with very fond memories. The value of life cannot be measured by longevity alone but in ones love and the impact upon the lives of others.
Agnes Elizabeth Yates, the daughter of the late George Sylvester and Dora Cecelia Hicks was born in Charles County, Maryland on February 8, 1934 and departed this life for eternal life on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at her home in Dentsville, Maryland.
On December 1, 1956, Agnes and Bernard Yates, Sr. were united in marriage. They were married for 59 years.
She attended public schools in Charles County and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Bowie State University and became a teacher with the Charles County Public School system. After teaching for over 30 years, she retired in June of 1997.
After retiring, mom travelled and went on cruises with her husband. She loved all sports and was a dedicated Washington Redskins fan. She loved family gatherings and preparing meals. She enjoyed doing word puzzles and selling Avon, which she did for over 30 years. After she got the hang of using a computer, she spent many hours playing solitaire. During every holiday she enjoyed decorating her house with lots of decorations. But most of all she loved going to church and spending quality time with her Lord and Savior. After service on Sunday, she would talk about the message of the day and how she would apply it to her life. She showed love to all she met and loved everyone unconditionally.
