SMITH, AGNES REGINA (AGE 83) OF INDIAN HEAD, MARYLAND
Agnes Regina (Matthews) Smith, fondly known as 'Jean', was born September 26, 1939, in Indian Head, Maryland to the late John and Mary Estelle Matthews.
On August 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, Jean peacefully departed her earthly life and entered into eternal rest with God.
Jean was married to the love of her life, George Smith. This union lasted 51 years.
Jean was a faithful member of the St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Indian Head, Maryland. She received her education through the Charles County Public School System, graduating from Pomonkey High School in 1957. She worked for Peoples Drug, then CVS, for 50 years before retiring in 2010.
Jean was a loving mother, grandmother (Grumma), great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved her family and friends, and they loved her. She called all of her nieces and nephews her favorites, because they were all so special to her.
Jean loved to travel, whether it be by bus, boat, or plane, she was always going somewhere. Her favorite trips were to Arizona to visit her son Bryan and his family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George, son, Francis Xavier, brothers, William, James 'Jimmy', Charles 'Buzzy', Thomas 'Sonny', and Harold, sisters Nettie "Sister' Mack, Margaret Woodland, Gladys 'Mae' Rolley, Dorothy 'Boo' Norris, Frances Dunnington, Carolyn Ann Thomas, and Joan Matthews.
Jean leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory three children, Faye Cartwright (Ray), Bryan Smith (Sheri), Pam Smith Hall (Chris), six grandchildren Bryan Smith (Stephanie), Christopher Cartwright (Tanya), Jerrod Smith, Natalia Smith, Natasia Smith, and Samantha Jankowski, 13 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her viewing will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Mass of Christian Burial follows at 9:00am on Thursday, September 7th, St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
