IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Agnes Dunreath
Colbert
July 26, 1930 – January 16, 2025
COLBERT, AGNES "DUNREATH" (AGE 94) OF NEWBURG, MARYLAND
Agnes Dunreath Colbert of Newburg, Maryland transitioned to her eternal rest on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. Dunreath was born on July 26,1930 to the late Arthur and Catherine (Kate) Edelen.
Dunreath was strong in her Christian Faith and enjoyed attending Church. She was a very active member of the Ladies of Charity of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. This is an active group of ladies with a passion to serve the down trodden and the needy through outreach programs. She enjoyed visiting nursing homes to meet the patients and to have warm conversations with them. Dunreath was a very caring and giving woman who had a heart to serve the Lord. She would often say, "I want to do what pleases the Lord" while exhibiting a sweet and humble spirit.
Dunreath did domestic work in the LaPlata area. She often spoke of how she was blessed to have had the opportunity work for such warm and caring people. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and looked forward to watching the Redskins/Commanders on Sundays. She enjoyed and took pride in preparing Sunday dinners for her children and looked forward to having them home. Her favorite Sunday meals consisted of fried chicken, potato salad, cabbage, and iced tea. She would always make her guest feel welcome by saying "your company is very agreeable."
Dunreath was a loving, compassionate and kindhearted woman. She was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She truly had a heart and the functional gift of a servant. She was a stylish lady who enjoyed dressing for Church and other special events. She was very particular about her appearance.
Dunreath and her husband of many years worked hard to purchase their home late in life. Her greatest hope was to live in her home all the days of her life. Psalm 37:4 says, "delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart". God is so faithful in that He not only granted her the desire of her heart to remain in her home during her eleven-year illness of dementia but she also went to her eternal home of glory in the comforts of her home.
Dunreath never learned how to drive, but she always found a way to get to where she needed to go and she cleverly assisted her friends in need as well. When her children would arrive to pick her up, she would say, "can you pick up my friends too". Sometimes her children would say, "mama you want 'us' to pick up your friends too". She would gently smile and say, "I knew you wouldn't mind". Of course, they would comply because it made her happy.
Dunreath was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Colbert; two daughters, Catherine Browner and Caroline Cooper; one son, Melvin Colbert and grandsons, Tracy Colbert and Robert (Bobby) Cooper; four sisters, Inez Dorsey, Evelyne Butler, Alfreda Edelen and Mose Edelen; and one brother Robert Edelen.
Dunreath was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Joyce Colbert who moved in to care for her nearly eleven years ago, step daughter Elvina Barnes, two sons Jesse Colbert who often gave her flowers on Sundays 'while she was living' and Donald Colbert (Linda Colbert who willingly gave of herself to assist in her care), grandchildren and great grandchild whom she adored, nieces, nephews and as well as a host of relatives and friends. God continued to show forth His faithfulness to Aunt Dunreath by touching the heart of His angel(s) to willingly assist in her care.
