Brawner, Agnes Louise Shorter, Age 94 of Waldorf, Maryland.
Peacefully, on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the home of her son in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Agnes Louise Brawner transitioned to eternal life.
Born on September 10, 1919 in Bensville, Maryland to the late Rachel and Milbert Shorter.
Agnes attended Charles County public schools until she had to return home to help with the daily care of her siblings. She met and married James "Buster" Brawner and began working at the Naval Powder Factory in Indian Head, Maryland. She later left that position to become a stay-at-home mom to her growing family. As her children grew older, she returned to work as a domestic housekeeper. Upon retiring, she returned home to be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother. Agnes enjoyed cooking the "big" Sunday dinners for her family. Since cooking was so enjoyable to Agnes, she served as the "Chairwoman" of the Food Committee for the annual St. Joseph's church picnic for many years. Because of her delegation and leadership skills, every person that
she interacted with knew what, when and how she wanted things done.
Agnes was a faithful and dedicated warrior for our "Lord and Savior" as a member of the Free Gospel Church in Bryans Road, Maryland for more than 20 years. Under the leadership of Bishop James Briscoe, she was the eldest member and "mother" of the church. Affectionately known as "Mother Brawner", she always looked forward to reading and studying her bible, listening to gospel music and attending Sunday morning service.
Preceded in death by her husband, James "Buster" Brawner; sons, Joseph and Melvin; mother, Rachel Shorter; father, Milbert Shorter; sisters, Eliza, Eleanor, Alice, Anna, Rachel, Mildred, Florence, and Marie; brothers, Leonard, John and Buster; and son-in-law, Wilson Lewis.
