Our Lord and Savior come into the world, to take our brother John Cleveland Gray to Heavens’ gate.
John was born on February 25, 1925, to Sylvester and Alberta Gray. John was the 4th child of this union. John Cleveland Gray was preceded in death by both parents: Sylvester and Alberta Gray; one son – Dennis Hancock; 3 sisters: Roxy Swann; Constance Keys; Lillian Johnson; and 3 brothers: Marshall Gray, Edward Gray and Charles Gray.
John enlisted in the Army on August 25, 1943. John served in the Philippines until July 23, 1945 and his last year in the United States until his Honorable Discharge in March 18, 1946. While servicing his county John received the following Awards: Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. After leaving the service John started working at “American Type Culture Collection.” John was a Laboratory Technician working with germ and bacteria cultures and the containment /destruction of these cultures, until his retirement in January 07, 1991 after 27 years of Service.
John leaves behind to cherish his memory the Love of his Life and Wife - Margaret Juanita Gray of 48 years of marriage and 1 Brother- Clarence Gray and his wife Joyce Gray, 4 Sisters- in-law: Pauline and Frank Prunty of Robbins N.C.; Mazie Ritter and Louise Garner of Greensboro, N.C.; and Swannie Thompson of Carthage N.C. and a host of nieces and nephews, along with numerous other family members and Friends...
Viewing, 11:00am until time of Service, 12 noon on Monday, May 14, 2012 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
